Photos & Report by Zak Varvaresso

On Monday February 16, Pakistani immigrant Muhammad Nantim 22, was found dead at the Detention Center of Amygdaleza. He had been already in detention for almost two years before he headed into the Amygdaza, one of the largest detention centers in the Athens supberb. He commited  suicide.

After Nantim’s  suicide a massive revolt burst inside the facility in the wake of the formation of the new left-wing government who promised to gradually abolish all the detention centers.

People from immigrant networks stood in solidarity with the immigrants as a massive intervention took place in Amygdaleza on Sunday 15/2.

For years now, Greece has been one of the first arrival countries for thousands of immigrants in their way to Northern Europe. Greek goverment along with several shady ngo and private organizations such as security and catering companies have been raising millions of euros from European Union funds in order to built  Detention Centers and to strengthen the immigrant policy.

Those rough prisons hold countless of people who are deprived of their basic rights for years and have turned into one of the largest scale economic business for the state and it’s collaborators regardless of what kind of wing they are.
